iParenting/Teen Spirit What's Your Spirit Contest Winners
Daughters come in all shapes and sizes – and all personality types. These years are when a girl's spirit really starts to shine. Thanks for celebrating your daughter's individuality by telling us which fragrance from Teen Spirit® best matches her personality. Here are the winning entries!
Hannah, the Sweet Superhero
By Kim Case
My daughter, Hannah, is definitely lively and playful. She is best represented by the Berry Blossom scent. A spunky little redhead, she is always up for fun in any form. Whether it be skateboarding with the kids next door, or throwing the football with her dad, she never stops going! She has a younger brother and sister and is an amazing big sister. Just this afternoon, they were running through the sprinkler and the little ones were losing interest. Hannah decided to go and grab beach towels and sunglasses. She then tied the towels around their necks and handed them the sunglasses, and she then declared them all superheroes. She gave them each a name to match their beach towel, sunglasses and personality and started chasing them around the yard and jungle gym. They were delighted! They continued playing for another hour! Her outgoing personality and love for life are contagious to everyone she meets. She's the life of the party and makes a party out of life.
The Strawberry of Her Parents' Eyes
By Lavinia Galatis
My daughter, Katherine, is a free spirit. She is beautiful and smart and full of life. Like any daughter, she is the strawberry of our eyes, that's the way we see her. But I have to confess that every time we go somewhere together, people feel compelled to express their first impression of her and that is, "She's beautiful!" She is shy at the first encounter and that makes her even more striking, but give her some time and get involved in a conversation with her and she will bring up the smarts and laughter. She opens up like a flower giving you color and fragrance if you have time to look and smell her.
Sometimes only mentioning the school that she goes to, Bronx HS of Science, drives home the message about her smarts. Give her some of your time or a little attention and you will be rewarded with the pleasure of a full bowl of fresh strawberries, sweet and delicious! She is also very warm and a good friend and makes friends very easy wherever she goes. At night, when we are ready to go to bed, she is the one to come to me and hug me, saying, "Goodnight, I love you, Mommy!" Besides the fact that her favorite fruit and fragrance is strawberry, and for all of the above, I definitely think that the right fragrance associated with my daughter's personality is Sweet Strawberry.
Kendra's Blossoming Go-for-it Attitude
By Kendra Beeson
Hey everyone. As soon as I saw this ad I automatically knew which one I would be choosing: Wild Berry Blossom. This one represents being lively and playful, and always being up for a new adventure. My name is Kendra Beeson and I am 14 years old. I live in Tigard, Ore. I am getting ready to be a freshman at Tualatin High School, and I am so excited. Recently last year my best friend told me about how fun it would be to go and try out for the softball team this spring. I wasn't too sure at first but as soon as I put on my mitt, it was meant to be. I love to try new things and just go for it.
Whenever I am out and about I am full of energy. I don't like being in a bad mood and I am always the life of the party. Some of my friends know me as being playful and the talkative one. I adjust well with my surroundings. I love to meet new people and make new friends. I am a very straight-up person and I am always truthful. Some things I enjoy doing are dancing and singing. I love to sing karaoke with my girls and dance to our favorite music. I always try my hardest at school and homework to make sure I get good grades. My dream is to get a scholarship to a good college. I am working at that with all that I've got. This would be a great and exciting time in my life if I were to be chosen. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Crushing on Glam Erica
By Holly Verret
My 14-year-old stepdaughter, Erica, is Pink Crush, without a doubt. At just about 5-foot nothing, Erica is cute, perky and everything a teen should be. I met her first when she was 10 years old and am so proud of her as she grows to be a beautiful young woman. "Glam" is her favorite word as she loves new fashion and is always dressed to the nines, even to just play volleyball or "hang out." Crush is practically her middle name as she has a constant "crush" on one boy or another or they have one on her. Like many teenaged girls, her friends are her whole world and she has many "bffs." My teen has spirit!
Ilana is Cool as a Coconut
By Michele Sacks
It's hard to choose just one personality for my daughter because she is at the same time charming, adventurous and girly. But I think the thing that stands out most about her is her coolness under pressure and here's why. This past year, 7th grade, was a very big year for Ilana. In addition to doing her school work and preparing for her bat mitzvah, Ilana had surgery on her arm and also undertook a project to bring the Day of Silence to her middle school. The Day of Silence is a national student-led movement dedicated to raising awareness of discrimination toward gay, lesbian and transgender people by remaining silent during the school day in recognition of those students who do not have a voice. While preparing and then recovering from surgery, Ilana prepared a campaign to bring this day to her school. Despite obstacles she encountered from the principal, Ilana got the support of peers and the student council and managed to bring the Day of Silence to her middle school for the first time.
Ilana's coolness under pressure was evident in how she handled her bat mitzvah, her surgery and her meetings with school officials as she gracefully and politely campaigned to get support for the Day of Silence. In addition, Ilana never once worried about what any of her friends, peers or teachers would think about what she was undertaking. She felt it was the right thing to do and she pursued it. Ilana has a winning personality – she is lively and playful and she is cute and girly. But I think what makes me most proud as her mother is her willingness to pursue what she thinks is right, under pressure, with grace and without yielding to others who might disagree. She is truly cool.
A Cool Girl Marching to Her Own Beat
By Cheryl Campbell
My daughter is best represented by the Cool Coconut. She has her own ideas and is not lead by what others think – she marches to the beat of her own drum, you might say. She is a little tomboyish with just the right amount of girlishness that makes her liked by all. She is outspoken about issues she believes in and does not hesitate to stand her ground, yet she has a heart the size of the ocean and shares it freely with everyone she comes in contact with. We feel truly blessed to have her in our lives.
Retro Teen that's Strawberry Sweet
By Jonalyn Forman
Sweet Strawberry fits my nearly 15-year-old to a "T"! It reminds me of a retro strawberry scented lip balm I used when I was her age and retro she is. She loves the skinny pants and fun printed tops. I won't say her bangs are big (at least not in height) but they are thick. She tells me "it's in." She is very likeable and makes friends easily. She has a talent for making me laugh even when I'm angry. This is not a good thing when she's in trouble for the hundredth time for not picking up her clothes from the stairs! I know she's there to hug me when I'm down and I LOVE that she still calls me "Mama!" I may not like or "understand" her style, but she loves it and if that's all there is for me to not understand about her, I'm good with it!
Morissa, Master of Sweetness
By Sherri Schwartz
If I would have to say that my 13-year-old daughter reminds me of a scent, it would definitely be the Sweet Strawberry. Morissa is a sweet and caring young lady who thinks of others and their feelings. She is the first to volunteer and help. If there is friend in need or a cause, she is there. She is a straight A student and she is on the student council. Morissa was chosen in a nationwide search to be the Scholastic Advisor and give her opinion on issues going on in the world. She made and ran a lemonade stand to raise money for animals in shelters. She was the Master of Ceremony at the county fair talent show, and the Master of Ceremony for the King & Queen Pageant. Morissa volunteers several months a year at a car show that donates proceeds to a local charity. She donates much of her time, but truly enjoys it and gives from the heart. If you are looking for a girl that everyone likes, but is down to earth, you are looking for Morissa. I am proud to say that I am her mom and I love her with all of my heart.
Katie: Blossoming with Adventure and Joy
By Kristina Lade
My daughter, Katie, would have to be Berry Blossom! Katie is my hero because she doesn't let anything stop her from going after her dreams. Ever since she was a baby, her smile and happiness have lit up each room she has entered. Though she is a bit shy, she will try anything from learning to fly an airplane to flag football to going to Space Camp. She is a mixture of boldness and bravery (adding her name to a waiting list for a military high school) as well as total girl (scoping out all the catalogs that come in the mail and dreaming about her next outfit, not to mention shoes). I don't know what I will do someday when she goes off to college. That's a whole other story that I prefer not to think too much about, but I do know, in my heart, that wherever she goes today and in the future she will do so with the Teen Spirit that Berry Blossom represents – adventure and joy!
A Sweet Southern Belle
Dale Strickland
My daughter, Kendale, is a sweet and thoughtful young girl. She is always looking for ways to help others. She does the smallest things such as holding the door open for people when we go to the grocery store to never forgetting her manners. She is my little Southern belle. She has given up her gymnastics class to help out with the Special Olympics and she enjoys it so much. She loves the kids and she says it makes her feel so good to do something for someone else. She plans on becoming an RN one day and she is going to make the best nurse! She is considerate, never meets a stranger and loves helping others. She is truly a Sweet Strawberry!
Fruity, Fun and One of a Kind
By Jennifer Bayne
My daughter is truly one of a kind! She is a beautiful bi-racial young lady who is very proud of who she is and does not care what other people think. She is very honest, caring, courageous and outgoing. She's been wearing Teen Spirit Cool Coconut since she was 8 (we noticed she needed it) and since it is fruity she thinks it is wonderful. She plays just about every sport and we are thankful to Teen Spirit's protection.
