Twinkles, Our Favorite Ghost
by Marie-Helen Goyetche and Donna Smith

'Twas Halloween night
and all through the street
all the creatures were moving
to get candy to eat.

All except Twinkles,
the Christmastime ghost.
Showing up in October,
the month hated most.

Drifting and floating
to make Christmas bright,
but as soon as he landed
he saw such a fright!

Goblins and ghouls
and skulls all aglow.
Green witches and pumpkins,
no one he'd know.

The grass was all green,
the pavement was bare.
What happened to Jollytown?
It used to be there!

He searched and he searched
around and below,
looking for something,
where was the snow?

But instead of snow,
he saw trolls and bats,
slimy monsters and robots,
and kids dressed as rats.

Where was the silver?
Where was the gold?
Where was the star,
the one shiny and old?

Where was the mistletoe?
Where was the holly?
And he almost forgot
Mr. Red, Fat, and Jolly.

Confused and mixed up
he sat down to think,
but the smell from the Johnson's,
"Eeeeewwwww, what a stink!"

They baked pumpkin cookies
for the party that night.
After trick or treating,
they'd have a delight.

Twinkles was curious,
he crept quietly in.
It was like no party
that he'd ever been.

Demons were dancing,
wolfmen were howling,
Cinderella was flirting,
and cavemen were prowling.

They were bobbing for apples,
eating candy and cake.
"But where are the candy canes?
For goodness sake!"

The music was loud,
so no one could hear.
Dracula tried and tried
to make his voice clear.

"Ladies and gentlemen,
welcome tonight,
and don't let the monsters
give you a fright!

Before we continue
and feast on our dinner
the best costume tonight
...you, you're the winner!"

He pointed to Twinkles,
all soft and white,
"You have the best costume,
let me give you a bite!"

Twinkles laughed,
then he cried.
Twinkles had won?
He hadn't even tried!

He won a great prize
from the ghoulish host,
for the best disguise,
...a Christmastime ghost.
